We live with and from nature
The Engadin is a beautiful habitat that we want to take care of. Especially as hosts, the protection of our nature and its precious resources is very important to us. Looking beyond our own backyard shows that we can only lead a good and fulfilling life in harmony with nature. That is why respect for nature’s resources is a cornerstone of our everyday work, both as hosts and as organic farmers. We have been living this philosophy for four generations.
At Hotel Baer&Post, we are committed to treating our resources with respect. This includes focal points such as mindful consumption, sustainable production and conscious energy use. However, our understanding of sustainability goes even further. As an employer, we are also committed to social sustainability in the form of equal opportunities and cohesion.

Sustainable travelling does not necessarily mean doing without. It stands much more for awareness, enjoyment and depth. Switzerland is therefore pursuing a typical sustainability strategy: Swisstainable
Our resources
Waste
Wherever possible, we avoid producing waste. The resulting waste is separated by our employees and disposed of accordingly. Any leftover food is sent to the Zernez biogas plant where it is converted into new energy in a CO2-neutral way.
Water
Refillable glass bottles are available to guests in all our rooms. These special bottles with a pine cone lid can also be purchased on site.
Cleaning agents
We use mostly ecological cleaning agents throughout the hotel. These are obtained by our employees from a dosing system in order to reduce consumption and thus protect the environment.
Cosmetics
We also offer shower soap and cosmetic products in sustainable large bottles with a dosing system. We source all our cosmetic products from ADA Cosmetic, a “Cradle to Cradle” certified company.
LED lighting
The entire lighting system in our hotel, both inside and outside, is equipped with modern LED lamps. This minimises energy consumption and the LED lamps have a service life 25 times longer than conventional light sources.
Regional and seasonal products
We take care to avoid unnecessary packaging materials when shopping. We deliberately avoid portion packaging, especially at our breakfast buffet.
Wherever possible, products from the region and Switzerland are used in our kitchen. For example, the potatoes come from the Engadin and the canton of Graubünden. We also emphasise wines from the Bündner Herrschaft region on our wine list. We source our delicious coffee from the Engadine coffee roastery in Zuos and our dairy products come from Kataria Engiadinaisa and the dairy in Pontresina.
Electricity
We obtain our electricity for the hotel from Swiss and European hydropower. On our organic farm we produce the electricity for the Pauraria Chasout with our own hydroelectric power station.
Heating
We heat the entire hotel with environmentally friendly district heating from the central wood chip heating system in Zernez.CO2-neutral energy from the region for the region.
Laundry
Our hotel laundry is gently washed directly at our hotel, which allows us to avoid transport routes.We ask our guests to be mindful in order to reduce the amount of laundry.
Public transport
Travel to us in comfort and in a climate-friendly way by public transport – you will find attractive offers on our website.You can leave your luggage to travel on its own, and SBB offers various options for transporting luggage and sports equipment.
